Strawberry Fudge

If you are looking for something to treat your sweetheart to this Valentine's Day this Strawberry Fudge would be perfect. It is simple to make, smells delicious, and tastes yummy. Only two ingredients and a heart shaped cookie cutter and you are ready to make your someone special a wonderful homemade treat.

Ingredients: 1 package white chocolate chips
1 container strawberry frosting

Directions:
1. Melt the white chocolate chips in a double boiler or a microwave. 2. Stir frosting into the melted chocolate chips. 3. Spread the mixture into a 9x9 pan very lightly sprayed with nonstick spray. Then refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. 4. Using the cookie cutter cut into hearts and store in an air tight container.

Some people are always looking to find something new and keep changing what we already have, when sometimes they just need to look at the past. I love the 1940s glamour that women just seemed to have embodied. They looked sexy and feminine, but they were not revealing. To achieve a look worthy of the 40s glamour, you need to remember a few things:
1) Focus on the details of your look like rich colors and a cinched waist.

Expect to see shades of tangerine everywhere this Spring especially with Pantone's announcement that Tangerine Tango is the official color of 2012. The color is vibrant, youthful, and energetic. The reddish-orange shade emphasizes warmth and seduction. It instantly brings to mind blossoming lilies, romantic sunsets, and heat.

I love the idea of pairing tangerine with a lemony yellow or a hot pink but if you are looking for a more subtle approach stick with pairing it with neutrals or incorporating it into your look as a shade of lipstick or nail polish or as a statement piece of jewelry.

I am loving the idea of not having pain painted walls or just wall paper. These mural like walls are amazing. A lot of this wouldn't be that difficult to do either, because you can buy a lot of wall decals and stickers to create these looks. Plus when you get tired of it you just pull it off the wall and stick another one up. Isn't the Spiderman one so cute for a little kid?

Tomorrow is Superbowl Sunday and while I have zero interest in football I usually love any excuse for a party. Sometimes I think about what it would be like to own a business. Usually I think about much fun I could have in my own bookstore/coffee shop. For something different thought what about a candy shop? The way you could display and arrange the vibrant, scrumptious treats is unlimited and seeing the faces of the little kids as their mom or dad buys them something delicious would be priceless. Lately it seems like I am always exhausted and stressed out with a to-do list a million items long. While taking a few minutes to myself I came across some photos of outdoor showers and bathtubs. They look incredibly and completely self-indulgent and I am thoroughly convinced that some day I must own an outdoor shower for washing away the stress at the end of the day when the temperature allows. In fact, I am not completely clear why they are not mandatory on all houses that are not located in locations where the temperature is constantly arctic.

I am a huge advocate of the Little Black Dress but there's no denying that a Little Red Dress has an equal amount of appeal and almost as much diversity, plus it has just a little pizzazz to it. I don't really wear dresses that often mainly because I am just more comfortable in pants. Even though I seldom wear dresses, I really love them. The 50s tea dresses above are so feminine and beautiful. A tea dress from the 50s usually hit anywhere below the knee to the mid-calf. These dresses had feminine touches but where not revealing. I love the idea of having a tea or luncheon where my friends and I would wear an updated version of the 50s tea dress.

Easy Bake Pasta

I have a huge love for pasta and cheese and combining them creates the ultimate comfort food for me. This recipe is so simple and when paired with a salad and garlic bread provides the perfect dinner on a cold winter evening.

Ingredients: 1 Pound Rigatoni
2 Cloves Garlic
Salt & Pepper
1 Cup Parmesan Cheese
2 Cups Shredded Mozzarella
2 Tablespoons Italian Seasoning
Pasta Sauce

Directions:
1. Grate the Parmesan cheese. 2. Cook rigatoni in salted water. Cook pasta a little less than you usually like because it will continue to cook a little while in the oven. 3. Mix garlic, 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, salt, Italian seasoning, and pepper into the pasta. Also, add 1/2 of the sauce to the mixture. 4. Spread into a 9x13 pan sprayed with nonstick spray. Spread rest of the sauce on top of the pasta mixture. Add the rest of the cheese sprinkled on top. 5. Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes covered with aluminum. Then remove the foil and bake for another 15 minutes or until cheese is melted and starting to brown.

I love these vintage perfume bottles. They are so decorative and beautiful. If I had them I would love to display them. They would be perfect on a dresser or a vanity. I could even get rid of the lamp on my nightstand and display them there! Depending on which you would choose to display, they add insight to your personality and taste. Also, if you had some beautiful vintage or new perfume bottles they are a cheap way to make your space beautifully decorated.

While I love a good solid wood bedroom set, I can't help but love beds with fabric headboards. I have seen some of these as DIY projects before that other people have done to change their furniture and to mix up the patterns. These just look feminine and sleek. There is a softness to them that just wood wouldn't have. I would love to have one in a funky colorful pattern for a bedroom in my future house. Even though I am totally in love with them, I would still want a beautifully wood detailed bed for myself. What about you?

Layers are essential during the Winter months. If you want to beat the weather and stay warm you are going to be wearing multiple layers. You can stick to neutrals if you are unsure about what colors and patterns would work together, but have some fun with it. I love the look above with the mix of patterns. I think the mixing of patterns work nicely as long as the colors match and the size of the patterns differ. Tights, scarves, socks, and cardigans are easy pieces to add to a look to create more layers. I think the trick to this is to just try on things together and look in the mirror, if you like it and are comfortable wear it. If it isn't a look you feel comfortable in change. Double-Decker Confetti Brownies

Tomorrow is National Blonde Brownie Day. Brownies and blondies just happen to be two of our favorite desserts so in celebration we whipped together these extremely easy Double-Decker Confetti Brownies. We love how the tiny M&M's add a lot of pretty color.

Ingredients: 1 1/2 sticks softened butter
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, divided
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tablespoon butter, melted
1 cup mini M&M's

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. Lightly grease a 13x9x2 inch baking pan; set aside.
3. In a large bowl cream the butter and sugars until light and fluffy; beat in eggs and vanilla. 4. In a medium bowl combine 2 1/4 cups flour, baking powder and salt; blend into creamed mixture. 5. Divide batter in half. Blend together cocoa powder and melted butter; stir into one half of the dough.
6. Spread cocoa dough evenly into prepared baking pan.
7. Stir remaining 1/4 cup flour and 1/2 cup mini M&M's into remaining dough; spread evenly over cocoa dough in pan. 8. Sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup mini M&M's.
9. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until edges start to pull away from sides of pan. Cool completely. 10. Cut into squares and store in a tightly covered container.

Heels with a great pattern or design are so intriguing. With heels like these you wouldn't need a lot of color or prints in the rest of the outfit. You could let the shoe be the focus of the look. I love all of the prints above especially the white and black abstract. Those shoes would match almost anything you wanted to pair them with. I would want to wear those with a bright solid dress or maybe even a solid top and a pair of jeans. The floral printed heels remind me of Spring and sometimes during the Winter I like to wear florals just to brighten up the cold dreary day.

I am not an advocate of wearing sweats in public but it is hard to deny that I don't enjoy being wrapped in the comfy, cozy warmth especially when the temperatures are frigid outside. When doing chores around the house or lounging and watching Lifetime movies all day like I did last Sunday I want to be comfortable but the girly girl inside me still wants to be chic. A few simple tips for accomplishing this are:

♦ Look for oversized sweatshirts that are long and not bulky so they look like a tunic.
♦ Instead of a sweatshirt try a sweater dress with tights and boots and if you have to go out later simply add a blazer and a statement necklace.
♦ Shop for fitted sweatpants and yoga pants to flatter your body and avoid looking sloppy.

One thing we all need is a wonderfully comfortable bed. Without a nice comfortable bed we wouldn't get the sleep that we so deserve and sometimes so need. But comfort isn't all we want. We want it to be beautiful too. Who says we can't get our beauty sleep in a beautiful bed? I tend to pick out brighter, floral prints for my bed just to bring some color into my white painted bedroom. While, I love florals next time I would like to find something different. Any ideas?

If you are still looking for that perfect winter coat, maybe something with faux fur is exactly what you need. It looks just as good as the real thing. It is so soft to the touch and warm. You can go for the whole faux fur coat or a nice winter coat with a faux fur collar. I also love the faux fur scarf. It can provide that little bit of extra softness and warmth for my face and neck.

Peach Berry Crisp

I made dinner for my entire family last week and wanted to serve a warm, cozy dessert. I decided to serve a slightly hearty gooey fruit crisp. While preparing this dish was very simple and quick it does take a while to bake, however, during the entire baking time you home will smell amazing.

Ingredients: 4 cups of frozen peaches
2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup light brown sugar, packed
1 1/2 cups plus 2 to 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 1/2 cups frozen mixed berries
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup quick-cooking oatmeal
1/2 pound cold butter, diced

Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter the inside of a 9 inch pie dish.
2. Mix the peaches with 3/4 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and 2 tablespoons of flour. Toss well. Mix in the mixed berries. Allow the mixture to sit for 5 minutes. 3. Combine 1 1/2 cups flour, 1 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar, salt, oatmeal, and the cold, diced butter in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment. Mix on low speed until the butter is pea-sized and the mixture is crumbly. 4. Pour the peach mixture evenly into the pie dish. 5. Sprinkle evenly on top of the peaches and mixed berries. 6. It is very important to line a baking sheet with aluminium foil to place the pie dish on. This fruit crisp will bubble over the dish.
7. Bake for 1 hour, until the top is browned and crisp and the juices are bubbly. 8. Serve with ice cream or whipped topping.

When it comes to hats during the Spring and Summer I think of floppy straw hats. For the Winter I first think of boggans with the big poofy ball of yarn on top, but then I go on to think about so much more. After receiving our first real blast of winter temperatures and flakes of snow, I started looking for ways to keep warm. When I stumbled across the lovely Emily at Cupcakes and Cashmere wearing a parka I knew it was the perfect casual way to bundle up and fight against the frigid temperatures.

When shopping for a parka avoid the going camping feel by looking for a coat with details such as lace trim, leather cuffs, or tweed accents. Parkas are a little bulky so since you have a lot of pockets avoid extra bulk by foregoing a large handbag and carrying a small clutch instead.

Recently, I saw this house with an amazingly beautiful blue door. It was a truly breathtaking entryway for the house. This soon had my mind wandering and I came to the thought that maybe I wanted a blue door for my future home. It could be any color of blue, they are all striking and unexpected for the main door. I think I prefer a lighter shade though. But would I really want my entryway to have a blue door? Tulle is such a beautiful fabric to add to an outfit. It is some fabric that just goes with some many different types of looks. From casual to super dressy from ballet to punk, depending on the color and the cut of it. It can be super feminine and dainty or very edgy and punkish. I love the idea of pairing a neutral tulle skirt with a simple top and a military style blazer. The mix of delicate and tough would be amazing. Too Much Chocolate Cake

We made almost a dozen of these cakes during the holidays to give to friends as gifts and they were a huge hit. The recipe was is surprisingly simple so the next time you have a craving for chocolate cake spend a little time making this cake and your entire family will thank you.

Ingredients: 1 (18.25 ounce) package devil's food cake mix
1 (5.9 ounce) package instant chocolate pudding mix
1 cup sour cream
1 cup vegetable oil
4 eggs
1/2 cup warm water
2 cups semisweet or milk chocolate chips

Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
2. In a large bowl, mix together the cake and pudding mixes, sour cream, oil, beaten eggs and water. Stir in the chocolate chips and pour batter into a well greased 12 cup bundt pan. 3. Bake for 50 to 55 minutes, or until top is springy to the touch and a wooden toothpick inserted comes out clean.
4. Allow cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to finish cooling.

Instead of a frosting we made a simple chocolate glaze to drizzle over each cake.

Glaze Ingredients: 3/4 cup semisweet or milk chocolate chips
3 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon light corn syrup
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:
1. In a double boiler over hot, but not boiling water, combine chocolate chips, butter, and corn syrup. Stir until chips are melted and mixture is smooth, then add vanilla. 2. Drizzle warm glaze over cake.

Well, Christmas vacation is over with for me. Today, ends my first week back at work. I don't know about you, but I sure could use another break. After a long break, it is always so hard to get back into the grove of things. Waking up at 6:00am in the morning is not appealing when I have gotten to be lazy and sleep in for almost two weeks. Working until 4:00pm is a grueling task, when I have gotten use to lazy days where I get to spend time doing what I want or doing nothing at all. This weekend I need to rest and relax and get myself back into the work mindset from next week. What better way to rest and pamper myself than a relaxing bubble bath?

This winter I think satin heels are very trendy. I love the way they feel and that satiny shine they have. I think these types of shoes would be very easy to get dirty though and I imagine cleaning them would never bring them back. So I wouldn't waste a lot of money on a pair of these shoes, but it would be nice to have something special to wear on special occasions. Browned Butter Cookies

We have made these cookies several times but somehow have never posted the recipe. These Browned Butter Cookies are chewy, buttery, nutty, and rich. They are also very addictive.

Ingredients: 2 cups butter
2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 cups all-purpose flour
2/3 cup chopped pecans
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
5-6 cups confectioners' sugar
1/2 cup hot water

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. Heat butter over medium heat for about 10 minutes, until it turns nut brown in color. The foaming and bubbling is part of the browning process, but watch it carefully so that you don't burn the butter. Remove from heat, and cool slightly. Reserve 1/2 cup of the butter for the frosting. 2. Pour remaining browned butter into a large mixing bowl. Beat browned butter with brown sugar until the butter is no longer hot. Mix in eggs, 2 teaspoons vanilla, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Beat thoroughly. Mix in flour and chopped pecans. 4. Drop tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets. 5. Bake for 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until light brown around the edges. Allow cookies to cool on wire racks. 6. In a medium bowl, mix the reserved 1/2 cup browned butter with 2 teaspoons vanilla, confectioners' sugar, and hot water. Beat until smooth, and use to frost cooled cookies.

Currently, I am in love with suede shoes. Any kind of shoes that are suede, I just find irresistable. Suede boots, ankle boots, or pumps it doesn't matter. If your Christmas is anything like mine it is a whirlwind of activity filled with opening gifts, numerous family gatherings, entertaining guests, and a lot of time cooking in the kitchen. This time of year I am usually obsessed with sparkly dresses, but instead my brain is occupied with elbow patches. Whether on sweaters or blazers the patches will make any outfit a bit more modern and fun. Maybe it's the equestrian touch or the tribute to the geeky professor tbut there is no denying that elbow patches are a classic detail.

Sweaters are a great piece to have in your closet when cold weather comes. Previously I have posted on thin knit sweaters and those are wonderful, but when it comes to winter weather nothing is more comfortable and cozy than a chunky sweater. These provide lots of warmth and are great to snuggle into when that winter wind comes blasting at you.

New York Photo Diary

Finally, here is a few photos from our time spent in New York during Thanksgiving. The City was lovely. Even more beautiful and magical than in the Spring and Summer. We viewed the City from the Empire State Building, attended the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, enjoyed all of the beautiful window displays, ate delicious food, shopped until we were exhausted, and saw the Rockettes for the first time. Our vacation was a whirlwind of activities and we loved every moment of it.

DIY Snowmen

These adorable snowmen are so easy to make. If you are looking for an easy holiday craft, this is it.
All you have to do is...
1) Take a white childrens sock and stuff it full of pillow stuffing until you get to the ridges of the sock that come up around your leg. Twist the top and tie tightly with a piece of yarn. Cut off the excess yarn.
2) Tie a second piece of yarn loosely around the stuffed area to separate the head and body. Cut of the excess yarn. Take the top of the sock and fold down on the head to form a hat for the snowman.
3) Take a black sharpie marker and mark eyes and a mouth on the snowman head.
4) Then take a small square of orange fabric about the size of a quarter and roll it up to be the nose. Hot glue the nose to the face.
5) Take a piece of felt and cut out arms. You will need 4 so that you can sew them together to get two arms. Sew them up almost all the way and then stuff with the pillow stuffing, before you close them up. Sew to the snowman body in the desired position.
6) Take a piece of ribbon and tie in a bow around the neck.

It is an easy DIY project. If you want to ensure that it will stand on its own hot glue a jar lid to the bottom.

Old Fashioned Gingerbread

I love trying new recipes and baking up delicious treats to try for the first time but sometimes I crave traditional, old fashioned desserts like I imagine my grandmother used to make. I made this gingerbread on a particularly blustery Fall day a few weeks ago and it was an extremely comforting treat to eat while the weather outside was frigid, windy, and rainy.

Ingredients: 1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup apple sauce
1 cup molasses
1 egg
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons cinnamon
2 teaspoons ginger
1 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup hot water

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9 inch square pan or an 9 inch spring foam pan.
2. In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter. Beat in egg and mix in the molasses. 3. In a bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves. Blend into the creamed mixture. 4. Stir in hot water. Pour into prepared pan. 5. Bake for 1 hour in the preheated oven, until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
6. Remove from the spring foam pan or allow to cool in the square pan before serving. 7. I also made a quick caramel sauce for the cake by boiling 1/2 cup butter, with 1 1/4 cup brown sugar, and 2 tablespoons water for 1 minute.
